Strawberries. I'm not sure what it is about organic strawberries but they somehow taste sweeter. Maybe its from the manure.
This picture is from our strawberry patch and those berries ain't half bad but we actually get most of our berries from
a local organic farm, and they are sooo sweet. The kids and I stopped by Saturday and grabbed some, and they were devoured in an hour.
Agreed. Do you make jam? How does your strawberry patch do? Our was frequently eaten by deer last year until it was hidden by weeds. This year we moved them all into a fenced garden and they are doing much better. Though, ants will sometimes get the berries before we do and those are donated to the chickens.
ReplyDeleteWe have 3 different kinds of strawberry plants in our garden, 2 ever bearing varieties, and one June bearing variety. I think that the flavor of the June bearing variety blows away the flavor of the ever-bearers by a fairly wide margin.
ReplyDeleteYummy strawberries. It is a great year all around for them. Yesterday we picked up 8 quarts of them at the farmers market. We also picked up some rhubarb. Carrie made the most wonderful strawberry rhubarb pie and then Carrie, Maggie and Liz made strawberry jam. How good does our house smell now?
ReplyDeleteAnd we knocked down our garage. What a good day all around.
